These are things no one ever want to read… according to Blabbermouth, ex Threshold singer Andrew “Mac” McDermott passed away yesterday for “serious health problems”.

I’d like to share a little, personal memory with all of you.

Back in 2002 I knew Threshold but I wasn’t a big fan of the band. I had the chance to see them live, co-headlining the ProgPower festival in The Netherlands and during their show I started singing along “Turn On Tune In”, a song I really like from the album “Hypothetical”. Mac noticed it and waved at me, even if I wasn’t on the front lines. Right after this, the band started to play “Fragmentation”, from the album “Critical Mass”. I was so hooked by that song I looked for the merchandising store that was close to the stage and I bought the album before the song ended!

After that show, I became a big Threshold fan!

R.I.P. Mac, we’ll always remember you!

(for those who don’t know what I’m talking about, the first part is here)

Giacomo Leopardi was indeed a real genius but he also possessed an incredible culture. Personally, I think that there cannot be creativity without culture. Every artist should know what the others made before him, how they made it and why. This sets the starting point for creating new art. No one can really come out of the blue claiming he invented something new. It just doesn’t work like this. Read about all the biggest musicians, writers, painters and so on, and you’ll discover how much they studied before creating something able to cross the time and to be valuable even after centuries.

Ok, let’s head back to the main topic.

Leopardi made a deep analysis of the “Batrachomyomachia” and he translated it from ancient greek to italian three times during his life. This happened for various reasons: first of all there’s no way to know who is the author of the poem. For centuries many eggheads thought it was Homer, because the style is the same as the one of his better known epics, the Iliad and the Odissey.

But Giacomo Leopardi disagreed with this attribution for various stylistic and historical reasons. For exemple there are words in the “Batrachomyomachia” that Homer never used in both the Iliad and the Odissey, and no one seems to talk about this epic-comic poem before the III century B.C..

However, it’s still impossible to determine who the author is, and Leopardi thought that this is a shame because he really wanted to tribute all the honors to the genius who wrote that poem!

Then there are the reasons why someone would ever write about a war between frogs and mice. Various critics of the past found out quite a bunch of them:

- to teach the kids about the danger of riots;

- to teach the kids about the virtues of a frugal life;

- as a stylistic introduction to the Iliad and the Odissey.

But above all, the “Batrachomyomachia” is a big parody of the Iliad. The story, the characters, the gods, the weapons, the art of war, Homer’s writing style. Everything. And this makes it beautiful.

Jean Leclerc said that the reason for this parody to be written was that the war between frogs and mice was worth the gods’ intervention just like the Trojan War described by Homer. Giacomo Leopardi fully agreed with this vision of things.

But why three italian translations? Because Leopardi read the existing ones and found out they all sucked. Indeed. He was a perfectionist!

Uhm… this post is turning to be quite long and boring, so you’ll have to wait until the next one to know the story described in the “Batrachomyomachia”. Believe me, it’s really cool!

Stay tuned for more…

Hi to all our friends worldwide!

As I stated here and here, we’re currently working on our new album, and we’re really thrilled about it so far! Since the concept starts from a work of Giacomo Leopardi, I think it could be useful to know better this poet, what he did and why we find him so interesting.

I don’t know if school teahcers around the world make you study italian poetry. Here in Italy we get to know only the principal artists from abroad, but you know: we’re the cradle of culture!

I’m sure you all know Dante Alighieri and his metaphisic journey known as the “Divine Comedy”. Metal fans use to like epic poems! Well, this work appeared in so many movies, books, comics and videogames it’s impossible that someone didn’t notice it.

Giacomo Leopardi didn’t write epic poems, but is known as the biggest italian poet after Dante Alighieri. Why? Because of his deep vision of nature, society, politics. His way of thinking about the meaning of life itself made him create the concept of “solid nothing”. It would be way too long to explain its meaning here, so I suggest you to read some of his works.

Born in 1798, Giacomo Leopardi suffered for his entire life of various phisical deseases. His continuous study undermined his already fragile physical constitution, and his illness denied him youth’s simplest pleasures. This draw a huge mark on his poems and on his vision of life.

He read a lot the classics from ancient Greece, so much that his first poems were in greek language! This deep knowledge led him to translate many of these classics. Among them, I’d like to point my finger to the “Batrachomyomachia”, which is the starting point to our musical concept. Therefore, on the next post I’ll write a brief description of this epic so you can get to know better what we’re working at!

Stay tuned

Hi to all the friends worldwide! Today I’d like to spread the word about a very good band from Italy: Delirium X Tremens. You could ask why I am suggesting a death metal band: it’s because they’re good friends and they seriously kick ass! Ciardo, the singer, appears also in our debut “Fit to Die” and is a very kind person with an incredible voice! We really look forward to working with him in the future, and to playing with Delirium as well!

The guys put a lot of effort not only in their music, but in the growth of the italian metal scene as well. They organize festivals and listening sessions where the bands can promote their albums. Yeah, they work really hard for the whole thing!

And more, they’re releasing a cd focused on the history and the tales of their mountains, which they love so much. I haven’t yet listened to it, but I really can’t wait! As of now, you can enjoy this teaser:

Teaser of the forthcoming Delirium X Tremens album: BELO DUNUM , Echoes From The Past

You may say that its sound is quite strange for a death metal band, and that’s why I respect them so much. Writing music just like mainstream bands do it’s too easy, you need balls to try something new! Delirium X Tremens are not scared of experimenting new sounds and new solutions. This is the REAL way to push the whole music one step forward.

The release date of “Belo Dunum: Echoes From The Past” is set on next October. Follow them on MySpace and Facebook.

Back to an Italian review from Silent Scream webzine.

Good to know that an heavy metal band like we are is appreciated in our country, too!

Obviously nobody is completely original, apart from those who engage in bizarre artistic experiments, and we are not an exception. We want to give our personal view and sound on the issues we deal with. We have some peculiarities as the choirs or melodic voices but, believe me, we’re thinking to work for the opener with some black metal riffs. That’s because of the lyrics or the theme we want to develop. There are some boundaries but we can manipulate the rules with the right knowledge of the facts. Future is Tomorrow, like the other bands in the genre, are an heavy metal band but first of all play music! And to play music means to write good songs for the listeners. It’s usually simple in theory, quite difficult in practice.

If someone had asked me before to record “Fit to Die” what would have been my favourite song, I think I’d never answered “The day of retribution”. Eleven minutes long. I like shorter songs.

But that track contains all the things, tricks, feelings and more that Future is Tomorrow was able to do in that moment. Now it’s time to raise the bar. For us and for who wants to hear a great product.

The quality is the key: a big production and good songs with groove and melody must be the business card of an artist. Then there are the listeners, you can not please everyone but you can take your own space through thousand of musical suggestions.

Oh, please, don’t forget to buy the CD or the songs on the web of the bands you think are worthy to be supported. We need money to continue to compose, record and improve our art.

Cheers.

Hi all, this is my first post of this new website. It’s also the first multilanguage post we’ve ever hosted!

On June the 1st, 2011 the italian Supreme Court of Cassation accepted the abrogative referendum that is going to be held on the next 12th and 13th of June. The questions are the following: the construction of nuclear plants inside the italian territory, the privatisation of water services and the immunity of the PM from prosecution. These are very important topics for the future of our country.

Anyway, this post is not about how do you have to vote. If you decide for the YES or for the NO is only a matter of your personal choice! This is about the vote in itself and its power as a democratic instrument. Italians, get up and vote!

Well, since we’re a heavy metal band, here is a music suggestion about this topic: it’s one of my favourite bands’ album, back from 1998. “One Hour by the Concrete Lake” by Pain of Salvation. It seems this is Mr. Gildenlöw less favourite album, but I’m very fond with it because it’s the first PoS cd I’ve ever listened to. Just like all their works, it’s a concept album, and inside it you can find themes like water inequality between the world’s north and south, firearm industry, nuclear power and pollution. The title is referred to Lake Karachay, in western Russia. There, so much nuclear waste had been dumped over the past fifty years that if one stood by the shore for one hour, the exposure to radiation would be such that death from physical injuries would inevitably occur within two weeks.

Lend an ear to it and don’t forget to vote!

Pablic

…and now, let’s switch to italian to repeat the message!

Buon ascolto e buon voto!

So, what can I say… I love french people, especially the ones who spend kind words for the drummer of an heavy metal band called future is Tomorrow. Thanks to Le Chant du Grillon and to Jean!!

I noticed the reviewer prefer the power metal songs to the mid-paced one’s. Ehy Gad, I wrote in a previous comment you should not write power metal songs anymore. I grant you one, maybe. [note by Gad: we'll see... ]

A few of months ago I went to Symphony X‘s concert in Florence. They made a couple of songs from the upcoming album “Iconoclast” and I said to Gad:”Hey, they stole our riff:)”. Yeah, it was nice to hear the same sensation from what we’re composing and what that incredible band was playing. I clear a thing, it has never been my intention to compare F.I.T. to Symphony X!!

When we’ll be able to reach a top 10 heavy metal song as Paradise Lost, Divine wings of Tragedy or Inferno perhaps I will say we’re better than..uhm..Dream Theater .

I’m surely joking but at the same time I think that with a lot of hard work and continuous improvement we can have our satisfactions, and hope the listeners will have them, too.

“Fit to Die” was a good beginng and a great challenge: the partecipation of the choir and the addition of tons of synthesizers to the songs has not been easy to arrange. Now we want to do better: I still have not heard what kind of orchestral parts there will be on the next album but I’m already excited to listen how heavy are these new metal songs!!

And remember my friends, keep listening to heavy metal, spread it’s word and follow the new bands!!

Bye

Hi everyone, let’s talk about what’s heavy! Metal is heavy and heavy metal songs should be heavy!!

I want to tell something to Fred from Teeth of the Divine webzine: the next CD will be heavier than what you would expect from Future is Tomorrow! Some good heavy songs …with a ballad…:) This one is for metalheads who have a heart despite of the lyrics of the song which are very strong. The feeling reminds me to “The bard’s song” of Blind Guardian although it is quite different. Maybe I’m crazy.

The reviewer felt Rush on the title track: believe me, I’d never thought to be compared to this band on a F.I.T. song. A great compliment in my opinion!!

The title track is a bit different from the other songs because is a composition started from Pablic: he has the particular gift to write 7/4 riff and make them sound like a 4/4. And it becomes very easy to me to play:) So Gad, stop listening to Shadow Gallery or other complicated progressive bands.

In “Fit to Die” there is not a true ballad, but the song that comes closest, to me, is “Stories to Tell” . Maybe the best composition of the album: there are a couple of songs that I prefer but “Stories to Tell” has a lot of dynamics and a great feeling. Max did a very good job!

(I made a base drum mistake but don’t tell it around….).

What can I say more: keep supporting heavy metal, independent music and, obviously, Future Is Tomorrow. And I’m expecting that our ballad will touch your hearts and reach the top 10 of the greatest heavy metal songs:):)….

Bye

Grave
